heromatch

one URL → a hero matched to the click interactive demo · invented brand · nothing tracked

The ad made a promise. A landing page that ignores it pays for the same click twice.

This is one landing page at one canonical URL. Arrive from a paid click and the hero rewrites itself to match the promise that click made — a search ad gets the comparison the searcher wanted, a social ad keeps the interruption honest, a LinkedIn ad talks to the office buyer. Arrive organic and you get the one canonical page search engines index. The resolver prints its reasoning below the fold.

HOW THE HERO WAS CHOSEN

click ID → UTM → nothing, in that order
THE BUSINESS STORY

Why this system exists

A paid click is a person mid-thought. Someone who searched for a standing desk, clicked an ad comparing standing desks, and landed on a homepage about the brand's founding story has to re-find their own intent — most close the tab instead. Message match isn't a design nicety: the platforms score it (Google's Quality Score prices ad relevance into every auction), and the visitor scores it faster than that. One generic page under every campaign means the ad budget buys clicks the landing page then discards.

What I built (the production original)

On a live B2B SaaS website I built a paid-signal-gated hero rewrite: paid arrivals were detected from the click's own parameters and got a hero matched to the campaign that paid for them, while the URL, title and canonical stayed untouched — search engines and direct visitors always saw one stable page. No separate landing-page sprawl to maintain, no duplicate URLs splitting SEO authority, no CMS fork per campaign.

The judgment calls

What I'd change today

Variant copy should live in configuration a marketer can edit without a deploy, and each variant should report its own conversion rate against the canonical baseline — message match is a testable claim, and the production version measured clicks in but not variant performance out.
